Broadcom Partners With WIDCOMM to Accelerate Time to Market for PC-Based Bluetooth® Products

All Future Releases of WIDCOMM's Market Leading BTW Software to be Pre-Tested And Pre-Qualified on Broadcom's Blutonium® Silicon Solutions

IRVINE, Calif., Oct 14, 2003 /PRNewswire-FirstCall via COMTEX/ -- Broadcom Corporation (Nasdaq: BRCM), the leading provider of silicon solutions enabling broadband communications, today announced a non-exclusive agreement to offer WIDCOMM, Inc.'s Bluetooth® software with Broadcom's Blutonium® system and chip solutions. When paired with Broadcom® silicon and software solutions, WIDCOMM's BTW software products provide complete pre-qualified Bluetooth functionality to PCs and related products that integrate the popular short-range wireless technology.

"Pairing WIDCOMM's industry-leading BTW software with our single-chip Blutonium products offers our customers a complete, pre-qualified Bluetooth solution, enabling them to save development costs and cut development time," said Scott Bibaud, Director of Marketing for Broadcom's Bluetooth products. "We see this as a tremendous opportunity to help accelerate the widespread adoption of Bluetooth, making it easier to design into products and use."

"Broadcom's integration of our software supports its commitment to providing the highest possible levels of Bluetooth functionality to wireless communications devices," said Andreas Malzach, Vice President of WIDCOMM Marketing. "Bundling our software with Broadcom's silicon solutions provides device manufacturers with a total Bluetooth solution that will enable superior wireless communications in their advanced products. The combined solution from WIDCOMM and Broadcom clearly offers the most competitive and most complete Bluetooth solutions for the PC industry today."

Under the terms of the agreement, Broadcom and WIDCOMM will engage in joint development efforts to ensure that Broadcom Bluetooth systems and chips are compatible with WIDCOMM's BTW software stacks. The WIDCOMM Bluetooth solutions provide the complete protocol stack, simplified user interface and up to 13 of the leading Bluetooth software profiles, including HID (Human Interface Devices), HRCP (Hard Copy Replacement) and PAN (Personal Area Networking). WIDCOMM's BTW software, which is designed specifically for use with PCs and other Microsoft Windows® based products, includes full software support for Broadcom's recently announced wireless mouse and keyboard system-on-a-chip, the BCM2040, as well as the previously announced BCM2033 and BCM2035.

All future versions of the WIDCOMM BTW software will be tested for full compatibility with Broadcom's Bluetooth products prior to release. Broadcom and WIDCOMM have been collaborating on Bluetooth products since 2001, and have now formalized their relationship with this agreement.
